Patrik Laine stays put

Rumors are swirling that Patrik Laine wants out of Winnipeg. He’s had great success with the Jets but has also had his share of difficulties. Laine has been at odds with the organization about his playing time and linemates. Reports are saying his agent has asked for a trade but Laine has neither confirmed nor denied the speculation.

My hot take is he stays.  The Jets have done some made some moves lately likely to try and make Laine happy. Paul Statsny is back with the organization and is a skillful player who Patrik had some success with in Statsny previous stint in Winnipeg.

How long will Laine stay? I’d say at least the year. The Jets have a talented team and will hope Laine has a career year. Laine loves goals and if he is scoring and the Jets are winning that could be a great incentive for Laine to stay.

After this year the ball is still in the Jets hands as they have control or Laine’s contract since he is in the second year of a two year contract and will still be a restricted free agent. Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is a one of the leagues best GMs and won’t give Laine away for nothing but may be in a tough position in Laine truly intends to move on.
