The Greatest 4th Quarter Individual Defensive Performance Ever

The Phoenix Suns faced the Golden State Warriors on January 10, 2023.

The Suns were without their 3 top primary ball handlers in Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Cameron Payne.

The Warriors had their franchise player Steph Curry and 2-way Andrew Wiggins back in the lineup.

The Warriors trailed by double digits for the majority of the game but with the fire power they have they are always a threat.

They never did quite overcome the hump and lost the game.

In a mid-season game that will for the most part go unnoticed an all-time great defensive performance was showcased.

At 31 seconds into the clip above and with the final quarter of basketball to be played Wiggins locked in.

He was individually responsible for 8 changes of possession going his team’s way. It’s likely a stat that isn’t tracked specifically but I doubt that’s ever been accomplished in the modern NBA and maybe ever. For the game he tallied 5 steals and 2 blocks. It was the 4th quarter that he became engaged. It doesn’t take much for the Warriors to get going before an avalanche of points are put up and surprisingly it didn’t happen that night. They typically only need a few stops and Andrew gave them 8. This small window likely lost in amidst the noise of regular season is a glimpse of what Wiggins can do. We saw it last year’s playoffs. The Warriors are in the playoff picture and with important pieces coming back into the fold they should make a larger push to stabilize and gel before the playoffs. When they get their 2-way Wigs will be waiting and ready. Full Court as soon as the balls in play!
