My GOAT and YA, That’s who I said

Everyone has their opinion.

There’s two sides to every coin.

My main sports counterpart (the guy I argue the most with about sports through text) knows I’ve been calling Andrew Wiggins the GOAT since he entered the league. It may seem crazy but i have my reasons.

I’ll make two different arguments for why I think Andrew Wiggins is the GOAT. I can understand disagreement but I’ll say how I go about defining what my GOAT. I accept there needs to be results. They might not come and then obviously it would tarnish my choice but I believe they will come and some already have.

1) Greatest player means great skillset

This argument has recently been made the Connor McDavid is the best player ever

Now I’d argue that stats lie (I swear I made a post about this but can’t find one, so I will have to). Guys who play point guard or center usually get all the stats. Big guys who play guard get even more stats. Some players I’d argue are even on the lookout for stats.

Wiggins might not get the gaudy stats. He often tries to fit in and doesn’t show the Mamba Mentality. But that’s because he is a team player.

He has all the tools. The complete skillset and they are all elite. Shooting from deep (shown moreso this year), mid-range (knocked on but can get a wide open shot at will), open court, dunks and post-up game (dominates smaller players). In my opinion he is the best defender in the league. Defense stats lie. Having 2 steals or a few blocks a game is hardly indicative or a players true defensive effect. Wiggins guarded Ja Morant, Luca Doncic and Jayson Tatum in the last 3 rounds of the playoffs better than anyone (again in my opinion) in the league right now could or ever could.

2) Two Ends of the game

He can do and does it on both ends of the floor. Again defense stets lie (thought I made a post about this too, will have to). You need to play both ways to be a true GOAT. You can score all the points but if you let in more you lose. He’s adjusted his game to fit his new team. I see him making more adjustments. He’s doing this because he can. He can do whatever a team asks of him. Other players can’t. He basically has a 99 skill set on all elements but the Golden State Warriors in the past year only needed certain aspects of his game at certain times. When needed he turned them on and excelled.

This opinion might be gaining steam
